It’s truly a Happy New Year as we kicked off the year with The Girl-Child project, named: SIRF GIRL CARE. This project was held on 17th January 2022 with the aim of reducing Period poverty in the beneficiary communities, as thousands of women cannot afford sanitary pads and products for their monthly period. Still I RIse Foundation is aware of this growing concern from women and girls across the country and with almost 60% of her team being women.
The foundation saw this need and decided the first part of this project to be carried out in an all-girl Secondary School in Kogi state, where most of these students cannot afford these products and are left with using clothes, papers and other unhealthy items during their monthly periods. This practice leaves them exposed to infections. Team members of the foundation took a trip to Sarkin Noma Government secondary school, Lokoja, Kogi state where we had several pep talk sessions with the kids on Puberty, Hygiene and how to use Sanitary Pads. After the pep talk sessions the girls were given gift bags containing sanitary pads, body roll-ons & sprays, soap and other essential items. We were able to reach out to over 200 students with this project.
