In celebration of the Word Youth Skill Day (WYSD)2021, Still I Rise Foundation organized a project tagged “SIRF Skills Competition/ Exhibition”. The event took place on 15th July, 2021 at the foundation’s training hall located in Abuja. The aim of this project was to appreciate and support some youths who have taken it upon themselves to learn and practice certain crafts. The competition was grounded on 2 chosen crafts, Art work and Bead making. The first session featured the art work, while the second featured bead making. Participants were given an hour to display their creativity, after which they were scored by professionals who sat in as judges.
At the end of the competition, their work was auctioned and some of them were sold. Cash gifts were given to all participants from both skills according to their positions. The first position won the sum of N70,000 while the second position won N50,000 in both crafts. Other participants went home with N20,000 each. Gifts items were also distributed to participants according to their skills. The art work participants were given paint palettes, brush sets, paint tubes, Canvas and other items. While the bead making participants received packs of sand beads, strands of crystal beads, fishing lines (elastic and normal), presser, cutter, finishers, locks etc. 50% of the auction was given to the artist while 50% was given to charity. The project was covered and aired on AIT.
