In celebration of the Word Youth Skill Day (WYSD)2021, Still I Rise Foundation organised a project tagged “SIRF Skills Competition/ Exhibition”. The event took place on the 15th July, 2021a at the foundation’s training hall located in Abuja.
The main aim of the project was to appreciate and support some youths who have taken it upon themselves to learn a skill and also practice the skill.
The competition was grounded on 2 chosen skills. They are artwork and bead making. The first session featured the painting while the second featured bead making. Participants were given an hour to display their creativity after which they were scored by the judges who were fair and just.
At the end of the competition, their work were auctioned and sold. Cash gifts were given to all participants from both skills according to their positions. The first position won the sum of N70,000 while the second position won N50,000 (both painting and bead making. Other participants went home N20,000 each. Gifts items were packaged for all participants according to their skills while they all received notepad, pen, and hand towel. The artists were given paint palette, brush set, paint tubes, Canva. While the bead makers participants were 2 packs of sand beads, 4 strands of crystal beads, fishing lines (elastic and normal), presser, cutter, finishers, locks.
The event was a complete success and at the end of the day, 6 youths were supported in their skills and importance of learning a skill was reiterated.
