The last week of June marked the first in house project in the Still I Rise foundation building. On Wednesday, 23rd of June, 2021 marked the international widows day. This is a global event marked yearly in order to address the poverty and injustice faced by millions of widows. It is also a way of celebrating these women and standing by them.
This project was tagged PROJECT POWER. The aim of the project was empower 10 widows and also to educate them on their mental health. A psychologist was invited to handle the emotional and mental aspect of the project. A total of 10 grinding machines was delivered to these women. Items like plastics(bonnets and bowls), aprons, hair bonnets, hand sanitisers were parts of the items. Furthermore, a cash gift of N60,000 was given to each widows as a way of support and encouragement to never give up as when there is life, there is hope.
The women shared their experiences in tears and it was a heart felt moment for all of us at the event.
Remember I told you about our father’s day project and how we went to the street to interview? So our video is out and you do not want to miss. Just follow this link and have the best laughs ever.
Still on empowerment, two recipients were given the sum of N100,000 each for business start-up. This was done after the recipients had been investigated. A total of N200,000 was spent on business start-up.
Having a place to lay your head after a hectic day is bliss. The sum of N250,000 was paid to a house owner to secure an accommodation for a recipient who walked into the foundation with tears in her eyes. She however left here smiling and grateful that she has a place to call a home.
