“Do not refuse to help widows nor orphans.” – Lailah Gifty Akita
23rd of June is renowned worldwide to be a day to celebrate widows and this year, the Foundation decided to celebrate with Ten (10) widows in the city of Abuja in a very special way as they were hosted in the training hall of the Foundation. We didn’t just want to hand them gifts just to celebrate that day but to give them something that would be sustainable for them and their family. We know how difficult it is usually for these widows to move on with life after the death of their partners and how most times they are left stranded by family members. We gifted them with brand new grinding machines, aprons, buckets, bowls, hand sanitizers, hair bonnets and a cash gft of N60,000 each (N10,000 from the organizing team and N50,000 from the Foundation) as a means of support to them. We also had a Psychologist in person of Miss Grace Josiah to speak to them on matters regarding their mental health, self care and how to take charge of their emotions as that is a very important aspect of their lives to consider after they shared their experiences with everyone present.
The event ended with a session of praise and worship to God by the Widows as they were elated to be celebrated by the Foundation as most of them have never gotten such support from anyone before. It was a very memorable experience not just for the widows but for the team members of the Foundation as well as the joy we saw on their faces left us smiling.
