You have heard that behind every dark cloud is a silver lining and this is the darkest of clouds we have faced as a world. While you spread the cheer and ignore the fear here are some fun productive things to do, as you Stay at Home and a great way to spend your time during this quarantine ( yes it rhymes – it is on purpose)
First off, from Everyone here at Stillrise, how are you? Hope You are practicing social distancing, proper hygiene and most importantly Staying at Home?
How are you coping with the current #zombie apocalypse – that is what I am calling what ever is going on now.
You see the news? Everything is becoming real. The numbers, the cases, more states. We went from, e no go reach Africa because of our climate, our superior immune systems, and now it is here and getting worse by the day.
The figures are climbing and one thing you can do to help is by Staying at home.
Staying at home now is necessary and this has led to an increase is boredom – We know, we
feel it too.
Not even a week of this quarantine and I have lost count of the number of times I have written “ a secret message anonymously” to someone, posted the 7th picture on my gallery, know the number of beans it takes to fill a milk can and the my personal favorite – how long it takes for your fan to stop turning after you switch it off. (1 minute 30 seconds on 3, 2mins:12 seconds on 1 for my fan).
We have been nominated for every challenge (and a new one seems to be coming up every day). But I am beginning to get tired of it honestly but if it helps us Stay at Home then keep them coming.
However, if You need a healthy distraction during this zombie apocalypse, here are 5 fun and productive activities to do as you stay at home.
1. Read a book (Fiction or Nonfiction):
Boring isn’t it? Not everyone one like to read so why would we make it number one on a list? Well because it is necessary.
A great way to reduce time spent worry about the zombie apocalypse on social media is by reading other books – Fiction or none fiction
Now is the time more than ever to read some good fictions, you have some novel or book you put aside in the hopes of reading it someday now is the perfect time to pick up that book and start reading.
Here is a suggestion of good books you could read:
– 10 Best Nigerian Novels of the last decade – Zikoko
– Or this collection of 30 classics everyone should read in their life time – Life hacks
Who knows what you would discover, with so much time on your hands now is the best time to get creative, while you stay updated about the news and the apocalypse, you definitely need an escape and what better way than some good fiction or non-fiction?, audio books are great also. This is a great way to be productive while you Stay at Home.
2. Take a free online course;
There are tons of website online geared towards making you smarter at little or no cost as you Stay at home and if you have a skill you have been wanting to learn, now is the right time to start.
Online courses are now free or giving out very ridiculous discounts, if there is a skill you want to learn online, now is the best time to register and learn that skill.
You have time now on your hands, the best way to make the time go faster is by finding something you can get better at. You can take a daily two-hour break and learn a skill, or a new habit to better yourself.
YouTube is a great resource to find a new interest also.
Some great websites you can visit and learn from for FREE are :
1. Duolingo – A free app that would help you learn a new language at you own pace. ( Android and IOS)
2. Khan Academy – They provide resources for learning pretty much every subject out there, including math, science, history and more
3. Quora – If you have to ask someone famous a question or need expert opinion on a question. Quora is your minefield of information. You can read the opinions and answers of experts and others just like you and you can also contribute to questions asked.
4. Project Gutenberg – Project Gutenberg gives you the ability to download thousands of free e-books, and it’s completely legal.
5. Lumosity – Using a daily schedule of games, Lumosity is designed to make you cleverer. As you progress, the software figures out what your strengths and weaknesses (such as memory or math skills) and assigns you games accordingly. The best part is that the games are actually addicting and fun to look forward to!
3. Get In Shape:
oops, this is going to be tough,
While staying at home, you are bound to eat more and be more static – less stairs at work, school, less walking around for most of us. But you remember how many times you said you were going to get in shape by exercising more?
Well now is the best time to get exercising. You have more time now so mark out as little as 15 minutes daily when you do a form of physical exercise.
It could be taking a walk round your compound, stretches, jumping jacks, dancing etc
Here are 10 easy to do, stay at home, fun exercises
Most people set unrealistic goals when it comes to exercising and that’s why they quit.
But you are different so here is a tip for you. Set a small goal you can keep, if you win at that you are halfway there.
Instead of going from 0 hours a week to saying “I will work out every day for 1 hour”
Now, actually set a small, “every day I would work out for 10 mins” or a will work out for 5 mins and keep to it for a week, when you succeed at that you can up the rate. Buildup, make it a habit, your post-apocalyptic self would thank you for it
4. Your great idea:
You know that one great idea you have been putting off?
Now is the time to explore it. With the world slowing down, this is the perfect time to explore some of your interest and see what you can pursue.
I have lots of “tabs” I have bookmarked for months I would be taking a look at, so if you had any interest, the internet is her, explore and try to see new things you can enjoy that makes you grow. You want growth, don’t you?
That idea you wanted to pursue, visit it, your new year resolutions – take a look at them. To help you – Here is a guide on how to make your new year resolution stick
You can do this while you Stay at Home.
5. Keep in touch with friends and family (Your Network):
We know it is the “great quarantine” and as such most of us are working from home.
But thanks to technology you can still stay in touch with your friends and loved ones and network.
Staying in touch as you stay at home is important, you can keep in touch through phone calls, WhatsApp video or voice calls, messages, emails and as always here at Stillrise you can always follow our accounts @valhalla_X0, @stilliriseorg to keep in touch.
We would love to hear some ways you have been dealing with boredom and some games you are
