As part of the preventive measures against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State Government has announced the closing down of all public and private schools from Monday, March 23, 2020.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, the move became necessary to prevent children and their teachers from getting more vulnerable to the pandemic.
“It is important for parents to ensure that their children practise ‘social distancing’ while at home, wash their hands regularly or use hand sanitisers and observe high standards of personal hygiene. Children should be encouraged to remain at home.
“The closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease, which has become a global threat,” the statement said.

Yes, Kudos to Lagos State government. Motion supported. May God heal our Land
This is a step in the right direction but more awareness about the Virus should be done to really sensitize the people about the need to maintain proper hygiene , social distancing amongst other preventive measures. People are yet to be aware of the seriousness of the COVID-19.
Awareness at the Local Government and LCDA levels should be put in place, even the CDAs should be involved in creating awareness. We just must get it right.
So, my comment isn’t insightful enough ? Okay o.
The government has to create awareness programmes to the people as well as to provide all the safety and prevention materials.
The public should abide all the rules governing the situation in order to stay safe
May God help us
Amen
Hopefully with this steps and others to come, we will be able to combat the spread of the virus.
Great move, with collective efforts we can defeat this Virus.
Correct decision.
Correct decision by the government
Nice move from the government but I think self isolation would be the best thing.
Great move… .. at least it will stop some huge gathering
Na wa oo…this things are getting serious ooo. God help us
What parents need to know by UNICEF
The disease caused by the novel coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, China, has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) – ‘CO’ stands for corona, ‘VI’ for virus, and ‘D’ for disease. Formerly, this disease was referred to as ‘2019 novel coronavirus’ or ‘2019-nCoV.’
The COVID-19 virus is a new virus linked to the same family of viruses as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and some types of common cold.
UNICEF has been preparing and responding to the epidemic of COVID-19 around the world, knowing that the virus could spread to children and families in any country or community.
What are the symptoms of coronavirus?
Symptoms can include fever, cough and shortness of breath. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia or breathing difficulties. More rarely, the disease can be fatal.
These symptoms are similar to the flu (influenza) or the common cold, which are a lot more common than COVID-19. This is why testing is required to confirm if someone has COVID-19. It’s important to remember that key prevention measures are the same – frequent hand washing, and respiratory hygiene (cover your cough or sneeze with a flexed elbow or tissue, then throw away the tissue into a closed bin).
School are shooting Down
A good initiative I must say, however prevention is better than cure. A city with over 20 million people in which majority are poor, managing such people will be difficult.
This is commendable.
Its a welcome development from the lagos state government It is important for parents to ensure that their children practise ‘social distancing it will curb the spread of the virus.
Great Move👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
God help us all 🙏😇
That Is The Best Thing To Do Because Schools Are Prone To The Pandemic. Thumbs Up To The Lagos State Govt
This is commendable. Sanwo-Olu sanwo Eko. Eko oni baje. God bless Nigeria.
This is good initiative, best time to safeguard our future leader. May God protect us all, Amen.
Very commendable from my Governor ✌️
Great job my Governor ✌️
Closing of our airports and sensitisation of the populace should be the next on their agenda….. And also a scheme to help people who will have to sit at home if we face a full blown pandemic, so people won’t die more from hunger than the pandemic itself…… But what do I know??
It’s a great step, but awareness also needs to be created as regards this, before the break teachers can talk about it in the class, make comics about it or a song, that way little children too are aware.
May God heal our land, stay safe💛
That a welcome idea, but what about does people using commercial cars, market people, how will does once be controlled.
It us quiet simple only if they won’t look at the lost and think of their lives. Getting a personal hand santizer, you can go into a bank freely to wash your hands after alighting from a bus.
That’s a very good news. Markets should be regulated too. Although people will go hungry. So sad
This is a welcome development, it will help stop the spread of the virus.
Nice decision
It’s a step in the right direction. I hope other measures would be taken like distribution of sanitizers and face masks.
That’s a good step in ensuring the safely of the younger ones
Is now left for us and our parents to ensure those preventive measures are taking into consideration and apply regularly
Kudos to them
That’s the way to go, prevention is always better than cure.
Great ideal but please this should be effective in actions not just in words…. God bless The federal republic of Nigeria. God bless Lagos state
Finally they have sense, I’ve been so afraid for children cos you’ll tell a child like my daughter don’t touch this, don’t put your hands in your nose or eyes, but the plea will fall on deaf ears. Thank God let the children be at home, I can have rest of mind now
That is nice and a good preventive measures
This is proactive of the government of Lagos state. Other states should follow soothe
Finally they have done the needful
This is a great news
Well this is a very good decision taken by the Lagos state government and if possible other states should learn from them so there can be safe and happy home for everyone. This virus is something that’s spreading and very real. Hopefully we will fight this with the WHO and the world can be a loving place the way it use to be.
That’s very good but the best thing is, we hope something can be done towards it so it won’t affect many things because as it stands alot of things has been postponed. God will take control of this situation.
A very commendable action from the Lagos state government. Parents needs to be further enlightened on why their wards were asked to sit at home. It’s up to everyone of us to unite against this Coronavirus. Surely, our unison will cause a tremendous victory very soon.
God bless Lagos State
God bless Nigeria
I must not fail to commend lagos stae government for this positive state and also StillRise Foundation for doing their best to bring information about this scary plague to the public domain while continues doing their charity works.
To general public, please people are already agitated, let’s be trying much to be posting information that will create value by trying to write and share things that are most likely to add value to the readers. To always think first, how will this Tweet really improve things? Is this important? Drop the drama and think about how you’re helping readers. Before you post, think to yourself how this adds to the greater good.
Pls don’t try to politicize anything that has to do with this virus. No doubt there are a bunch of ways all this could be done differently by this administration. But don’t politicize the pandemic. This doesn’t help anyone. There’ll be time for that later.
In addition, more awareness by the government in public sectors , small communities around Lagos should be carried out in our local languages too … #Still I Rise
It’s a good thing to know that government care alot for her citizen. More enough, this could have been avoided if the government had taken prior action before the invasion of the deadly virus. Lagos State government has really don’t so well to see that everything actions need to be taken as a precaution to end the spread of Coronavirus outbreak and they should place an awareness on the need to stay isolated if one is infected or not when such symptoms showcase. Other state government should equally emulate this and take act before it’s get too late.
Way to good👍
I suggest and advise the @NigeriaGov to give a standing order for all schools to be shut down at these point. This is a critical moment that precautions should be taken very seriously.kudo to Lagos state a step in the right direction
They should emphasize more on washing of hands not just because of the virus but it will definitely become a habit. After creating an awareness for them, they should see to it that’s it is created out as well.
Possible punishment should be enforced.

That’s a great move there by the government closing down schools but it’s not just enough more enlightenment is required because there are people out there mostly the elderly ones and those in rural areas who are not aware of what is going on and the preventive measures to be taken to prevent one from contacting this deadly disease, the elderly ones are the ones fully at risk, provision should be made for them too and enlightenment should cut across every nooks and crannies of the country most especially the rural areas.
And if I may add again I will suggest our airport and ports too be shut down for the time being and it should be taken seriously for has we know this deadly disease gain access through these channels, they should be some medical teams mounted at these sensitive places to checkmate movement of people.
A right step in a right direction. Kudos
Nice step in the right Direction…Just now they inccluded varsities to the list.
That’s cool.
My school is still insisting that students finish up their exams before adhering to the directive of the federal government. I tire o
