What is hygiene?
According to the WHO, Hygiene refers to conditions and practices that helps to maintain health and prevent the spread of diseases.
Good personal hygiene is important for both health and social reasons. It entails keeping your hands, head and body clean so as to stop the spread of germs and illness. Your personal hygiene benefits your own health and impacts the lives of those around you, too.
The social benefits associated with personal habits is that it reduces the chances of body odour and thus, any chances of embarrassment at work or at school. Also you’re somehow helping others stay safe.
Types of hygiene
-Personal hygiene
-Medical hygiene
-Home and everyday hygiene
-Kitchen hygiene
-Food hygiene
-Sleep hygiene
-Work hygiene
Many people equate hygiene with ‘cleanliness,’ but hygiene is a broad term. It includes habits such as how frequently one takes a shower or bath, washes their hands, trim their fingernails, washes clothes etc. It also includes keeping surfaces in the home and workplace, including bathroom facilities, clean and pathogen-free.
Some regular hygiene practices may be considered good habits by a society, while the neglect of hygiene can be considered unsafe and threatening.
Advantages of good hygiene
-One personal benefit of good hygiene is having better health
-Maintaining good hygiene also helps you have better self esteem. By being clean and well-groomed, people can feel more confident in any social environment.
-Washing hands thoroughly for about a minute, especially before eating, can limit the transmission of harmful bacteria that cause infectious diseases
-Maintaining high personal hygiene standards builds a positive baseline for your success in any aspect of your life like relationships, work, health etc.
Disadvantages
-poor hygiene spreads diseases and infections
-Poor hygiene deters people from getting to know you. If people find your body odor or unkempt, unclean appearance offensive, they’re likely to pass judgments on your personality and your ability to care for yourself on a basic level.
-Poor cleaning can cause bacteria to breed, eventually leading to the contamination of the food and the water.
-if you don’t clean your mouth regularly, it increases your chances to develop tooth decay, teeth yellowing, carries developing, gums bleeding or bad breath.
Conclusion
Being clean is the first step towards sustaining good health. Clean living conditions are important to control and prevent illnesses. An unhealthy environment will not only disrupts one’s health, but it will also spread illnesses amongst other people.
A healthy body comes from knowing the importance of personal hygiene and following healthy practices religiously and fervently.

Hygiene is d key
If you practice personal hygiene, you would be covering every other aspect of hygiene.
If we all practice personal hygiene, you’ll remember you are supposed to see the doc at least once in three months; if you are hygienic, you’ll remember your kitchen needs to be clean at all times; of you are hygienic, your food also becomes hygienic and so on
So being hygienic personally means your whole life will be hygienic too!
How you sleep too will be considered if you are hygienic.
It has many advantages, if you ask me
Well said

Thank you for this. Adequate hygiene cannot be equated with anything. When we maintain proper hygiene, we stand a great chance against risks of illnesses and sickness. Health is wealth. I think there should be an awareness programme on Maintaining Proper Hygiene, people are too dirty and non challant towards cleanliness. The need for proper cleanliness cannot be overemphasized.

Cleanliness is next to Godliness👍👍
Nice one. Thanks for reminding us about how important hygiene is. We take most of these things for granted, forgetting that one can easily ingest gems with taking proper care of ourselves and what we ingest into our system.

What does a good personal hygiene routine look like?
We are aware that one must have a daily personal hygiene routine and that it is important – but what does it involve? We’ve compiled some of the steps in the write-up below so that your family can follow them to keep themselves clean and free of pesky germs that could cause a future illness.
Handwashing
The first place to start with your personal hygiene routine is your hands. We use our hands constantly during the day, touching many different surfaces, shaking hands with people, eating our meals, typing on the laptop or using a common telephone at work, or even playing at school. Naturally, our hands are the biggest carriers of germs.
One of the quickest and simplest ways to ensure that your family is safe from illness is to practice good hand hygiene. It can keep illnesses such as cold, cough, flu and gastroenteritis (these can all be contracted or passed on through poor hand hygiene) at bay. You can stop the spread of illness-causing germs by washing your hands frequently with water and soap, such as Dettol Original Liquid Hand Wash. You should wash your hands:
Before eating or cooking food
Before picking up a baby
After visiting the toilet
After coughing or sneezing, or being in contact with someone who is ill
After being in contact with animals
Let’s lay more emphasis on the medical hygiene
Here are few tips to help you out
1. Ensure to keep your undergarments dry by exposing it to the heat of the sun or the heat of an iron.
2. Avoid using sanitary pads for longer hours, it’s advisable to change between the period of 4_6hrs to avoid infections.
3. Avoid scented feminine hygiene products such as scented tissues, vagina deodorant etc.
4. Don’t practice self medication, it’s very harmful to the health.
5. It’s medically advised to wear more of cotton undies than lethal undies or better still go commando especially at night.
6. Avoid the use of beauty soap while washing your genitals, it’s preferably to use lukewarm water and a neutral soap.
7. Do not ignore signs if vagina infections, if you notice or feel any symptoms(symptoms like itching, swelling, redness, unhealthy discharge etc) pls endeavor to book an appointment with your doctor.
8. Always keep your body hydrated by taking enough water.
9. Ensure to do your post shower bath and yes the right way to wipe is from front to back not from back to the front with a clean towel because your genitals needs to stay dry always.
10. And lastly, please the right place to go when you fall sick is the hospital, book an appointment with a doctor for proper and accurate medication.
